The Office Furniture Warehouse team had the privilege to work with Freightwaves as they transitioned into their new downtown Chattanooga headquarters from Fall 2018 – Spring 2019. Read on to find out how we streamlined their implementation of an officeless workspace, or watch the video case study here!
FreightWaves is the industry leading provider of 24/7 news, data and market analysis for the freight and logistics markets. John Bowes is the EVP and GM, and recognized that this growth meant more than a greater headcount. Freightwaves signed a new lease on the 21,500sqft space in 2018 to accommodate their rapid growth to roughly 300 employees. Bowes’ goal was to evangelize trucking and logistics in an employee-friendly, officeless workspace while reinforcing a strong culture of ethics for the diversified talent Freightwaves is bringing to Chattanooga.
Reinforce Culture of Ethics
On a regular day, the upper level is entirely employee space. An assortment of open plan areas, breakout spaces and phone booths helped meet Bowes’ goal to have an officeless workspace that was still employee-friendly.
A larger open plan space for sales, creative and other functions houses rows of individual workstations. Each open workspace is outfitted with adjustable height workstations, and the perimeter is flanked with employee amenities. Occupants have access to conference spaces, a kitchen area and phone booths.
One wall features a huge screen used to display industry data and in the production of social content. In addition to Freightwaves’ routine content production, Bowes plans to utilize the former concert hall as event space on occasion.
Conference & Breakout Space
A group of breakout rooms border the large open space on one end, outfitted with conference tables optimized for videoconference and reservable by employees. Past these, another breakout table sits at the entrance to two private conference rooms.
The first conference room features a 12′ conference table with multiple power modules and cable management underneath, integrated for remote meetings and visual presentations. The executive conference room features a custom conference table inlaid with an exceptionally well-branded state of Tennessee.
Freight Alley Tap Room & ‘Haul of Fame”
Finally, our favorite feature is how hard Freightwaves worked to communicate a passion for keeping commerce in motion. Their workspace goes beyond “well-branded” to an interactive experience with what it means to be in the mix with logistics.
Bowes succeeded in a thorough effort to maintain connections with the building’s history. Subtle features pay homage to the Chevy history. In the reception space, the trucking “Haul of Fame” and big rig simulator are poised to immediately engross visitors. Throughout the rest of the space, logistics-themed artwork makes Freightwaves’ mission abundantly clear.
Originally owned by Chevy, more recent memory will recall the World of Beer downstairs and a gospel concert hall upstairs.
The Office Furniture Warehouse team delivered on every front during our transition. Carl was an exceptional resource from planning to execution, and delivered a cost-effective solution that met our needs for going forward. The installation team was on time, every time and rendered the utmost professional service. Office Furniture Warehouse was an invaluable partner in making this transition manageable, our experience was value-driven and my recommendation couldn’t be higher for organizations looking to make changes to their work environments.
