Beginning Earth Day (4/22/16), OFW is kicking off a contributory partnership to support green|spaces efforts to encourage energy savings in underserved communities through the Empower Chattanooga initiative.
What is Empower Chattanooga?
More than an energy savings program. In January of 2012 and 2013, homes in East Chattanooga, Highland Park, and East Lake used 43% more electricity per square foot than the average home in Chattanooga. Empower Chattanooga provides energy savings education and resources to local communities that are disparately impacted by their high utility bills, seeking to improve the quality of life in these areas by:
- Hosting workshops on low- and no-cost ways to reduce energy consumption
- Distributing energy savings kits to residents of these areas
- Facilitating community building from Park Cleanup to Outdoor Movie Night
How can OFW help conserve energy?
It only costs about $8 for Empower Chattanooga to provide an energy savings kit and education for one household. So, for every $100 in used and refurbished seating sold, OFW will contribute one energy savings kit to the Empower Chattanooga initiative. We’ll be publishing periodic updates about OFW’s supplement to Empower Chattanooga, and will have more success stories and pertinent information about sustainability efforts as the we partner with green|spaces to make Chattanooga an even better place to live! We want to see an unfortunate cycle broken, and for these communities to regain control of their expenses, retain disposable income, and improve the quality of life within. OFW is helping to save it forward because if they aren’t our customers, they’re our neighbors, and we owe our community everything we’ve been fortunate enough to receive. If you were already considering making an investment, now’s the time to make one that will directly impact the quality of life in these underserved communities.
